The Beacon Hill Film Project, which is a partnership between Arpeggio Films and Beacon Hill Business and Enterprise College has reached the finals of the National Lottery Awards, where it has been shortlisted in the "Best Arts Project" category. Latest Commissions / Projects

  • Thanks to funding from Media Box, Beacon Hill Business and Enterprise College, North Tyneside Council and RW Mann Trust, the Beacon Hill Film Project (www.a-films.co.uk/bhfp) has just embarked on the production of three new films. The young people will be making films about independent travel, love and relationships and Makaton, the sign language used by people with learning difficulties.
  • We created a short promo to profile the University of Sunderland's Musical Theatre Week, when young people of all ages were taught by leading professionals and international starts from world's of theatre, opera and music. After an exhilirating and demanding week, the young people performed their very own musical theatre night to a live audience.
  • We are delivering filmmaking training for the University of Teesside as part of their Digital Champions programme.
  • Creative Partnerships and Northern Architecture has commissioned Arpeggio Films to create several films with young people from Ian Ramsey School in Stockton, as part of ongoing consultation over plans for the new school building.
  • We will be beginning a project with Southlands School in North Tyneside in September through Creative Partnerships.
  • The BBC commissioned Arpeggio Films to run filmmaking workshops with City of Sunderland College. The films, called "Superheros and Alteregos" feature a range of surreal super-heros. The completed films, such as Velcro Man (!), can be seen on the BBC Blast website. www.bbc.co.uk/blast
  • In amongst constant talk of national health concerns, 'Playing Out'- a documentary for Stockton Borough Council, charts a series of events that enabled young people from the Stockton area to get active and engage with their local outdoor environment in new ways.
  • Recent Creative Partnerships work also includes films with Croftway and Wylam First Schools, and Whytrig Middle School (all in Northumberland). The resulting films had significant festival success with one of the Wylam Films being shortlisted 'Best Emerging Talent' at Encounters Fresh Flix, part of the largest professional short film festival in the UK. A film by young people at Croftway First School was one of only six from across the U.K to be included on the Co-operative Film Festival showcase DVD.
  • The Forge Arts in Education agency commissioned Arpeggio Films to work with a group of young people from Derwentside, County Durham to produce films that explores identity and aspiration. This interactive educational DVD will be launched in the autumn to be used by youth workers across the county to enable other young people to explore the same issues.   • 'YES', a documentary for Northumberland Youth Offending Service, explores the purpose and outcomes of the Youth Inclusion and Support Panels, where parents of young people are encouraged to work in partnership with professionals to devise solutions to their child's offending behaviour.
